Retailer: Smartphone sales spike 13% to 107 bln rbl in Jan–Mar

MOSCOW, Apr 2 (PRIME) -- Smartphone sales in Russia increased 13% on the year to 107 billion rubles in January–March and 8% to 6.7 million units, retailer Svyaznoy-Euroset said on Tuesday in a statement.

The average price grew 4.6% on the year to 15,900 rubles.

“As a year ago, the average price rose in the first quarter of 2019 because demand moves toward more recent models and an opportunity to purchase handsets of a medium and upper price segments on credit or by installments,” Vice President of sales David Borzilov said.

“It’s worth noting a rise in sales of brand Honor, which allowed the company to become the leader by sales in units as of the end of the first quarter. Buyers like these smartphones for an affordable price, high performance, and modern design.”

In units, the bestsellers were also Samsung and Apple phones, while Apple led in money.
